Crowd-funding sought for complete VR 'experience room' in Seattle, Washington.
A business in Seattle, Washington is planning on creating a ‘virtual reality experience room’ in which three friends can all experience a virtual reality (VR) world together, incorporating sensory effects such as wind, vibration and temperature while solving puzzles that involve physical objects. The creators have turned to crowd-funding platform Kickstarter to obtain funding for the project, called Spektra VR.
Drawing on ideas from the currently popular ‘escape rooms’, Spektra VR allows up to three people to enter a VR realm that requires them to cooperate to solve puzzles and explore the virtual world around them. Physical objects are planned to be incorporated, allowing users to handle real objects while in the virtual environment.
The organisers of Spektra VR are looking for $50,000 (USD) in funding. Funding tiers range from a ‘Thank you’ message hidden within the code that is activated upon players taking certain actions. Other funding tiers include tickets for the Spektra VR experience upon opening, right through to the $1,000 reward tier which includes the backer getting their face put into the experience, the option to create an experience for the Spektra VR room, access to the full technical documentation, core code and a personal consultation with the Spektra VR team.
The team behind Spektra VR are hoping to create an experience that is as close as possible to the fictional Holodeck from Star Trek. The team hope to have the first Spektra VR room ready for opening in Seattle, Washington in spring 2018.
“The VR community, especially in Seattle, is a diverse and imaginative group. We can’t wait to see what they can come up with using our platform.” said Corey Paganucci, Spektra Co-Founder.
Further information can be found on the Kickstarter page, or the official Spektra VR website. The Kickstarter campaign is due to end on 27th June, 2017.
