ATW and ASW are part of the reason why Valve don't want Vive software being sold in the Oculus Store. You'd end up with Vive titles bought from the Oculus Store and running from Oculus Home performing better than titles bought from Steam assuming that developers used the Open SDK.
It would also pretty much kill SteamVR off, although that won't be a great loss tbh because it's bloody awful. Oculus Home is a MUCH smoother experience.
And you SHOULD be interested in ATW and ASW because they will lower the barrier of entry for PC VR due to the minimum specs for VR being lowered. There won't be that many gamers out there that don't have a PC capable of supporting the Oculus Rift. If the Oculus SDK was extended to cover the Vive the same could be said for that headset too. And more PC VR headset owners = more potential customers for developers and publishers.
Unfortunately we're not going to see this happening due to Valve being anti-consumer and anti-competitive.
