Hello everyone. I just wanted to introduce myself and our first VR game - Blackjack Bailey VR.
The game was a cross collaberation between two studios - iCandy Games (which is just me) and my friends at Hologram Software. I did the Art,animation and design of the game, as well as managing the project. Hologram Software handled the code. We developed it with Unity.
To offer some background:
I've been a game developer for 15 years, mainly working as a 3d artist. I have worked on over 20 game and app titles, including big franchises like Star Wars and Call of Duty. I went indie about 6 years ago when the last studio i was working for closed down while we were in Beta for a game called "instant jam" for which i was the project's art director.
At that time, i had just launched a game called "My Virtual Girlfriend" for the app store, and it became a hit. This has basically allowed me to continue being an indie developer and creating more games and apps. I started getting into the idea of creating for VR after i had tried it back in 2013, but didn't get really moving until 2016.
For my first VR game, I wanted to create a seated VR experience, and utilize a game mechanic that people were already familiar with, so i choose a casino blackjack. Everyone knows the game. Everything takes place close up to the player, and that helps with immersion. I also have support with knowledge of the game, rules and how dealers behave while dealing. They have specific movements and gestures they do. I wanted to incorporate that realistic casino dealer behaviors into the game.
My inspiration for the dealer character look was my wife Angelina, who used to work as the Casino's here in Las Vegas as a card dealer. She also did the voice overs for the Character. She also did the voice overs in my previous game - My Virtual Girlfriend for iphone/android (not VR).
The game is now available for Gear VR,
We will be bringing it to the other platforms as well, in this order: Vive, Oculus, Daydream, Cardboard (and hopefully- psvr).
So thats about it, Just wanted to share with you a little about myself and the game.
@vrgamerdude did a nice little playthough of it here:
